September 13 2009 Bundoran responded well though. Keaney pointed from close to the sideline and then restored parity with a well-worked goal. Shane McGowan started the move which led to the goal and Keaney ended it but a lot of credit must go to Rossa McKiernan and Michael McEniff both of whom had been playing poorly up until then. McKiernan ran the ball out of defence and found McEniff around the middle of the park. His searing run through the heart of the Glen defence drew the advancing cover and ended with a perfectly weighted pass to Christy who sidestepped the onrushing keeper before stroking the ball home. A McGinley free put Glen in front once more but Fergal McKiernan and then McEniff pointed for Bundoran while Noel McGinley levelled the game for the fifth time at 1-6 apiece on the 22nd minute. A Hourihane free put Bundoran ahead and Declan McGuire replied for Glen before an incisive break by Jonathan McHale earned Bundoran a 14m free that Keaney tapped over to leave Bundoran a point ahead 1-8 to 1-7 after a thrilling half that had as much incident and scores as the entire game played a week earlier in Fintra. Bundoran resumed as the fresher and hungrier team but the accuracy which marked their first half performance had deserted them. Dessie McNamara, McHale and McEniff all had bad wides and the first score of the half saw Michael Byrne level the game up. Another Bundoran wide, this time from Keaney was punished with an Oisin O’Donnell point. Christy Keaney won and pointed a free to level matters for the ninth time but an excellent John Kelly point with the outside of his boot put Glen ahead again. Bundoran were now well on top around the middle with Paul Delaney and Ciaran McCaughey finally beginning to dominate in the air and Shane McGowan and McNamara picking up plenty of loose ball. They were still squandering scoring opportunities twice shooting from difficult angles when passes were on and the game looked to be moving away from them when Darragh O’Donnell moved Glen two points ahead towards the end of the third quarter. Again Bundoran found the strength to come back. Keaney knocked over another close-in free won by McHale whose hunger and pace was proving a real handful for the Glen defence and Tommy Hourihane pointed a free from about 50m to leave it all aboard for the tenth and last time in the game. Bundoran’s second goal in the 51st minute was effectively the turning point of the game. A shot from forty metres of Fergal McKiernan’s weaker left foot fell short on the edge of the square and the ball broke to McEniff who quickly transferred the ball to Ciaran McCaughey whose equally quick hands found Christy Keaney and his lobbed shot sneaked into the top right corner of the net to give Bundoran a 2-11 to 1-11 advantage. Michael Byrne narrowed the gap back to two but the reliable Hourihane pointed another free to leave Bundoran a goal ahead as normal time ticked away. A string of passes around the middle of the park as Bundoran held possession opened up a gap in the Glen defence to put Paul Delaney through on goals. The midfielder sensibly fisted the ball over the bar to leave two scores 1-1 between the sides. The drama was not at an end however. An aggressive off-the-ball shoulder by Peter McGonigle on Declan O’Donnell led to a clash of heads that saw the Glen player fall to the ground. The incident was not as bad as it looked but led to a melee as enraged Naomh Columba players sought retribution. McGonigle received a straight red which rules him out of the final and with Richie Gillespie out for six weeks and Diarmuid McCaughey doubtful it will be a test of Bundoran’ When the dust cleared Christy Keaney also had to leave the pitch with a cut head, inflicted by a stray water-bottle. With barely a minute referee Kieran McShea in probably his only strange call of the day played another two and a half minutes in which time Noel McGinley rattled the Bundoran crossbar. However, it was the Seasider’s day and they advance to the final next Sunday in MacCumhaill Park against Fanad Gaels. With 2-5 to his name Christy Keaney was the Democrat star-man and they also cited James Keaney, Shane McGowan, Paul Delaney, Michael McEniff and Fergal McKiernan as making valuable contributions and to this list should be added Jonny McHale whose impact as a sub caused Glen a lot of consternation. For Naomh Columba Kieran McBrearty, Dermot McGuire, Michael Maguire, Noel McGinley and the O’Donnells were to the fore. Naomh Columba: Shane O’Gara, Kevin Cunningham, Martin Cunningham, Ciaran McBrearty, Clement O’Gara, Michael Maguire, Declan McGuire, Andrew O’Gara (0-1), Gerard Cannon, David O’Donnell (0-1), Oisin McGinley (0-4, 3f), Dermot McGuire (0-1), Darragh O’Donnell (1-1), Noel McGinley, John Kelly (0-2). Subs used: Michael Byrne (0-2, 2f), Enda Gillespie, Conal Gavigan, Conor Butler and Kenneth Byrne. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Shane O’Donnell, James Keaney, Rossa McKiernan, Niall Dunne, Shane McGowan, Peter McGonigle, Paul Delaney (0-1), Ciaran McCaughey, Michael McEniff (0-1), Dessie McNamara, Dara Hoey, Fergal McKiernan (0-2), Christy Keaney (2-5), Tommy Hourihane (0-4, 4f). Subs: Jonathan McHale, Neil Chapman (blood-sub), Brandon Goodwin, Ashley Mulhern, Ryan Walsh, Brian Gavigan, Declan Rafferty.
September 13 2009 Glen were early off the mark in the second period and were two points up after three minutes at which stage the game was held up for five minutes with Richie Gillespie being stretchered off with an ankle injury. The scores were coming hot and heavy in the opening quarter with Hourihane and McGinley each converting frees before an excellent John Kelly point stretched Glen’s lead to three points with a tenth minute point. From the kick-out a fabulous run by full-back James Keaney set up his brother Christy with a goal opportunity. O’Gara’s point blank save rebounded to James who was tripped and Christy slotted home the penalty to leave the sides level at 1-6 to 0-9. Glen squandered three dead-ball opportunities to move ahead before Michael McEniff ended the barren period to put Bundoran ahead again on twenty minutes. However, Naomh Columba found their scoring boots again and at the end of normal time Michael Byrne levelled the scores and after a lengthy interruption that seen James Keaney knocked unconscious Andrew McCann edged them a point ahead. However, in the seventh minute of injury time Fergal McKiernan evened matters up again with a lofted point. Bundoran won the kick-out and might have pushed forward for another score but Ciaran McCaughey was harshly adjudged to have thrown the ball and his protests seen the ball moved forward to within scoring range. However, in keeping with their dead-ball inconsistency the free went wide and Bundoran lived to fight another day. Best for Bundoran were their midfielders Ciaran McCaughey and Paul Delaney, with Michael McEniff and Tommy Hourihane shining early on before fading out of the game, while James Keaney was outstanding throughout. Despite his profligacy with the placed ball Oisin McGinley shone for Glen as did Andrew O’Gara, Noel McGinely and full-back Martin Cunningham. In the Reserve tie Bundoran were eventually caught out by the greater cuteness and experience of Glen’s old-timers. Fiftieth minute substitute Paddy Hegarty, in particular, was a real match-winner for Naomh Columba, scoring four points in his brief sojourn onto the field. Bundoran could have already been streets ahead at this stage missing a number of goal opportunites which even if they had been pointed would have left the Seasiders well ahead entering the final few furlongs. In the event Glen’s last rally saw them move four points clear on an 0-9 to 0-13 scoreline. Naomh Columba: Shane O’Gara, Kevin Cunningham, Martin Cunningham, Ciaran McBrearty, Michael Maguire, Dermot McGuire, Declan McGuire, Andrew O’Gara (0-1), Gerard Cannon, David O’Donnell, Noel McGinley (0-2), Oisin McGinley (0-3, 2f), Darragh O’Donnell (0-1), Michael Byrne (0-3, 3f) John Kelly (0-1). Subs used: Enda Gillespie, Conal Gavigan and Clement O’Gara. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Rossa McKiernan, Richie Gillespie (0-1), Niall Dunne, Peter McGonigle, Paul Delaney, Ciaran McCaughey, Michael McEniff (0-2), Dessie McNamara, Dara Hoey, Fergal McKiernan (0-1), Shane McGowan, Tommy Hourihane (0-4, 3f). Subs used: Christy Keaney (1-0, pen), Shane O’Donnell. August 22 2009 Carn had reduced the margin to the minimum less than a minute into the second period. Bundoran, however, opened up a three point gap again when Fergal McKiernan cracked a ball over off the bar and Tommy Hourihane converted a free. A difficult opportunity was moved forward to a scoreable position after needless mouthing and was converted to leave it two points again. Mark Travers made it three again and so it stayed until the seventh minute of justifiable injury time when Bundoran were punished to the max for giving up easy possession – an over-ambitious pop at goal that fell far short and Carn moved upfield and a Hail Mary into the Bundoran square was deflected home by Dominic Doherty. A further minute additional time was played and Carn nearly nicked an unlikely victory but will be happy to take the long road home with a well-earned point in the bag. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Brian Gavigan, Niall Dunne, Richie Gillespie, Ryan Walsh, Paul Delaney, Dessie McNamara, Ciaran McCaughey, Mark Travers (0-1), Christy Keaney (1-0), Fergal McKiernan (1-2), Declan Rafferty, Tommy Hourihane (0-2, 1f). Subs used: Neal Chapman and Joey McNulty. Bundoran Match Reports – Senior and Reserve Team August 15 2009 The home side were on the board early with a Fergal McKiernan point in the first minute. His brother, corner-back Rossa, was the instigator of Bundoran’s second making a length of the field run before setting up Dara Hoey. Tommy Hourihan and Carn’s Darren Burke exchanged frees, while Dessie McNamara boomed the ball over the bar from 50m to leave it four one on the quarter hour mark. Cathal Doherty pulled one back from close range for Carn but with Bundoran mopping up around the middle third of the field they continued to apply pressure to the Carn backline and further points by Hourihane and McKiernan made it 0-6 to 0-2 approaching the interval. Bundoran’s anxiety to pile on the points was leaving them vulnerable at the back as all of their half-back line piled forward leaving a lot of space behind. Twice Bundoran were nearly caught on long-ball counter attacks with Kevin McManus saving brilliantly from Ryan Davenport on one occasion and James Keaney being called to clear off the line on another. Carn did keep in touch though through two soft 14m frees on the 27th and 28th minutes. Both were converted by Darren Burke and both were debated with referee Kieran McShea by Bundoran’s Diarmuid McCaughey, who earned first a warning and then a booking for his pleas. As the game ticked into added time Bundoran’s Christy Keaney added another point for the home side, catching a kick-out after another Bundoran wide and racing forward before skimming the top of the cross-bar with a rasping shot to leave it 0-7 to 0-4 at the break. Carndonagh were within a point of Bundoran within two minutes of the re-start. Cathal O’Kane hit the first after roughly ten seconds and Darren Burke quickly added his fourth dead-ball point after Liam Sheils was illegally dis-possessed. Carn appeared to be getting the upper hand for the first time in the game but they never managed to level the scores. Dara Hoey registered Bundoran’s first second half point on 38 minutes and three minutes later a long-range Tommy Hourihane presaged the scoring burst that would seal the match. A great break by Shane McGowan set up Christy Keaney to leave it 10-6 on 43 minutes and Keaney himself then split the Carn defence with a strong run following a great interception and pass by Dessie McNamara. Keaney’s strike for goal was parried into the path of Fergal McKiernan who found the space to drive home the game’s first and only goal. Carn needed to get back on the scoreboard if the game was not to drift away but with Paul Delaney majestic at midfield it was Bundoran that sealed the game with three points in as many minutes. Dara Hoey, Ciaran McCaughey and Tommy Hourihane all hit the target to leave it 1-13 to 0-6 by the 48th minute. On the 49th minute Keaney hit the post with a 14m free, signalling the end of the purple patch and Carn raced upfield but Cathal O’Kane’s strike for goal was foiled by an excellent McManus save. Padraig O’Doherty ended the visitor’s 23 minute scoring famine with a point on 55 minutes. Declan Rafferty lobbed Bundoran’s 14th point and McKiernan added the 15th on the hour. In between these late scores a great run by Carn midfielder Dominic Doherty saw his low shot scrape the base of the post denying the visitors a consolation goal. Best for Bundoran were Shane McGowan, Paul Delaney, Dara Hoey and James Keaney, while for Carndonagh Gerard Doherty, Ryan Davenport and Cathal O’Kane were best. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Rossa McKiernan, Niall Dunne, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie, Paul Delaney, Dessie McNamara (0-1), Ryan Walsh, Ciaran McCaughey (0-1), Christy Keaney (0-2), Fergal McKiernan (1-3), Dara Hoey (0-3), Tommy Hourihane (0-4, 2f). Subs used: Declan Rafferty (0-1) and Mark Travers. Carndonagh: Martin Mooney, Benny Doherty, Paddy Nelson, Aidan O’Callaghan, Ronan O’Connor, Gerard Doherty, Richie Cunningham, Cathal Doherty (0-1), Dominic Doherty, Ryan Doherty, Cathal O’Kane (0-1), Liam Shiels, Kevin Doherty, Darren Burke (0-4, 4f) and Padraig Doherty (0-1). Subs used: Declan O’Donnell and Christy McLaughlin. Reserves Bundoran: Johnny Keenan, Conor McEniff, Adrian Mullarkey, David Smyth, Ciaran Gunn (0-1), Bosco Moohan, Barry McGowan (0-1), Ashley Mulhern (0-2), Chris Chapman (0-2), Richie Morris (0-1), Brian Gavigan (0-3), Liam Travers (0-1), Paul McGee (0-2), Niall Gillespie (1-2), Joey McNulty (0-2). Subs used: Rhys Goodwin (0-1), Gavin Croghan (0-1), Brendan Brennan (0-1) and Peadar O’Keefe
August 12 2009 Full-forward Darren Green, despite a change of markers was continuing to cause problems for the Bundoran defence as was Eric Roberts at corner forward. Their accuracy in front of the posts was very poor however. At the quarter hour mark it was 1-7 to 0-9, Sean McIntyre and McEniff having pointed for Bundoran but Downings had registered six wides, two from directly in front of the posts. Green, though found his range again on twenty minutes and the scores were level entering the last ten. Bundoran, however, stepped up the pace and with Neal Chapman released from the full-back line with the entry of Niall Gillespie as substitute his and McEniff’s running began to seriously unhinge the Downings defence as the seasiders outscored Downings by four points to one in the final ten minutes of the half. Bundoran: Ashley Mulhern, Peadar O’Keefe, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio (0-1), Stephen Ryan, Neal Chapman, Gavin Croghan, Chris Chapman (0-1), Ciaran McCaughey, Adam Coyne (0-2), Michael McEniff (1-5, 1f), Rhys Goodwin, Sean McIntyre (0-1), Brandon Goodwin, Matthew McCabe (0-1). Subs used: Jamie Spratt, Niall Gillespie and Richie Morris.
August 9 2009 July 26 2009 Helped by the very strong wind Urris were soon back on level terms however, with points from Rocky Ivors and Patrick Doherty before Bundoran struck for goal again. Fergal McKiernan’s attempt for a point came back of the bar and Hourihane was on hand to fist the ball to the net to leave it 2-2 to 0-5 and given the strength of the breeze it was looking good for the home side. Urris, however, got the lifeline they needed when Bundoran ceded easy possession in the middle of the field and a quick transfer to the danger area left Donal Kelly with a goal opportunity that he didn’t forsake and it was level terms again. Patrick Doherty restored Urris’ advantage, Hourihane levelled it up again with a free and Brian Doherty got the half’s final score to leave it 2-3 to 1-7 at the break. When Christy Keaney levelled up proceedings with a well struck free in the first minute of the second half. However, Urris battled hard and the home side over-elabourated rather than letting the ball do the work. Consecutive frees from Dara Doherty gave Urris a two point advantage. A well-taken point by Richie Gillespie, and two frees converted within a minute by Tommy Houihane and a well-struck Fergal McKiernan free sandwiched a Rocky IOvors free to give the home side a 2-8 to 1-10 lead entering the last quarter and it looked like Bundoran would use the elements to push on for victory. An inspirational point after a long solo run by Eamonn Kelly evened up matters for the sixth time. Another Hourihane free edged Bundoran ahead, Ciaran Friel struck over another equaliser and then Bundoran had a lucky escape when a low shot from Dara Doherty was narrowly wide. Urris had the bit between their teeth though and midfielder Eamonn Kelly struck another beautiful point to restore the visitor’s lead. Bundoran wasted two good equalising opportunities with bad wides before Hourihane’s sixth free levelled up matters for the last time. Over the last three minutes both sides had opportunities to win the game but it was Urris who took one with Donal Kelly getting on the end of a slick move involving Michael Green and Rocky Ivors to fire over from close range. In the last minute of normal time Bundoran might have got in for a goal with players on the overlap but elected to shoot, wide, from distance. Urris quickly moved the kick-out upfield and won a penalty when sub Barney Friel was upended but Kevin McManus saved what turned out to be the last kick of the game one minute into added time. Best for Urris were man of the match Eamonn Kelly, Patrick Doherty and Michael Green while Paul Delaney, Shane O’Donnell and Dara Hoey were best for Bundoran. In the Reserve game, Bundoran made poor use of the first half breeze but were much better playing against the elements in the second half. There were just four points between the teams entering the final ten minutes but Bundoran rattled in 2-2 to leave the final score 4-7 to 2-1. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, Niall Dunne, Rossa McKiernan, Peter McGonigle, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie (0-1), Paul Delaney, Ciaran McCaughey, Michael McEniff, Mark Travers (0-1), Dara Hoey, Fergal McKiernan (0-1), Christy Keaney (1-1, 1f), Tommy Hourihane (1-6, 6f). Subs used: Shane O’Donnell. Urris: Sean Noon, Sean McDavitt, Patrick Doherty (0-3), Adrian Doherty, Martin Kelly, Padraig Doherty, Michael Green, Liam Dwyer, Eamonn Kelly(0-2), Dara Doherty (0-4, 3f), Donal Kelly (1-1, 1f), Ciaran Friel (0-1), Brian Doherty (0-1), Rocky Ivors (0-2, 1f), Brian Kelly. Subs used: Alan Friel, Barney Friel.
July 19 2009 Bundoran opened the second period much the brighter side and Fergal McKiernan opened the scoring with an excellent point from distance and then fired over a free. Again Fanad responded well with a Walsh point and another majestic sideline point from Friel. Bundoran’s Paul Delaney and Ciaran McCaughey had not got a grip of the game at midfield and while Bundoran were lording the possession stakes they were intent on working the ball in close for goal opportunities and tenacious Fanad defending kept them out. A breakaway move on the 45 minute mark sealed any remote chance Bundoran had of a comeback when for the third time in the game they were left outnumbered in the defence and White unselfishly fed Friel to allow him tap home to an empty net to leave it 4-7 to 0-5. While the remainder of the game was largely spent in the Fanad half Bundoran found it difficult to break through and the game petered out for an impressive Fanad win. In the Reserve game Bundoran got off to a flying start with two goals – from Brian Gavigan and Niall Gillespie within the opening two minutes and a further point from Gillespie to leave it 2-1 to 0-0 before the home team were half settled into the game. However, thereafter it was Fanad who dominated and they hit six points to Bundoran’s two to leave it 2-3 to 0-5 at the break. A poor second half during which Bundoran managed to largely maintain a three or four point gap sprang to life in the last five minutes when Fanad hit a goal and a point to level up matters. Both sides had chances to hit the winning score with Fanad having two wides and Bundoran three before Brian Gavigan stroked over the winning point to leave it 2-5 to 1-7 at the finish. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Rossa McKiernan, Ryan Walsh, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie, Ciaran McCaughey, Paul Delaney, Michael McEniff, Niall Dunne, Peter McGonigle (0-1), Fergal McKiernan (0-3), Christy Keaney (0-2), Tommy Hourihane (0-3). Subs:Shane O’Donnell, Chris Chapman, Johnny Keenan. Fanad Gaels: Martin McConigley, Fergal Friel (0-1), Cathal Martin, Patrick Heraghty, Patrick Shiels, Liam McAteer, Paddy McConigley (0-1), Eamonn Sweeney, Michael Sweeney, Aidan McAteer (0-1), Ephraim McFadden (0-1), Colm McElwaine, David Walsh (1-2), Seimi Friel (2-4, 1 pen, 4f), Ciaran McAteer. Subs used: Francis Sweeny, Brian Gallagher, Shane McAteer, Martin Rose, Paul Coyle and Gerard Friel.
July 15 2009 Bundoran never trailed throughout the entire game, two Michael McEniff points getting them off the mark before Richie Morris hit the net to leave it 1-2 to no score after five minutes, Paul Kelly got the home side off the mark but Bundoran’s Peter McGonigle and Matthew McCabe put them further ahead. Wing forward Gavin Bradley then hit the first of Red Hughs’ two goals and a Paul Kelly point narrowed the margin to two points. Again Bundoran responded well with Ashley Mulhern and Rhys Goodwin making it 1-6 to 1-2. Red Hughs finished the half much the stronger, however, hitting four unanswered points to leave the teams level at 1-6 apiece at the break. It was tit-for-tat in the opening ten minutes of the second half with Bundoran pointing and Red Hughs pegging them back so that by the end of the first quarter the visitors led by 1-10 to 1-9. Their midfield diamond of Ciaran McCaughey, Peter McGonigle, Nathan Carlin and Michael McEniff were beginning to dominate though and over the next ten minutes they began to pull further and further ahead with McGonigle in particular beginning to get a lot of freedom scoring three points, and three wides between the 20th and 30th minutes. Almost bang on the end of normal time with Bundoran a comfortable 1-15 to 1-10 ahead Peadar McGlinchey broke free to bury the ball in the net and give Red Hughs a lifeline. They soon had an opportunity to restore the margin to the minimum with a 25m free in front of the goals but the opportunity was squandered and within sixty seconds Gavin Croghan closed out the game for Bundoran hoisting over a difficult free from near the sideline. Scorers: July 12 2009 The opening score settled Cloughaneely and they scored the next three points through Joe Friel, Declan McFadden and Danny Boyle to close the gap to a single point. The game then petered out with defences well on top, the only score for 12 minutes a single long range Christy Keaney point that left it 1-3 to 0-4. Keaney then sent two ambitious efforts wide before McKiernan then set up McEniff who opted to take a fisted point rather than go for goal and Bundoran as Bundoran began to pull away. Two minutes later good interplay between McKiernan and Dessie McNamara set up Keaney and his rasping shot went in off the underside of the crossbar to put the home side ahead by 2-5 to 0-4. As with their last goal the ensuing kick-out saw Cloughaneely win possession and a softly awarded scoreable free. Joe Boyd tapped it over and converted another minutes later to close the gap back to five points. Bundoran hit back with points from Keaney and McEniff to leave it 2-7 to 0-6 at the break. Bundoran opened the second half brightly with Christy Keaney hitting their eight point within a minute of the re-start. It would be one of only two scores they would get in an attritional second half of what had been a fairly clean and sporting encounter. Both sides had chances over the next fifteen minutes but apart from a Joe Boyd 45, none were converted with Christy Keaney culpable of some over-ambitious shooting for Bundoran and a variety of forwards off-target for Cloughaneely. The balance of the game changed as it entered the final quarter. Bundoran’s Jonathan McHale was yellow-carded for the second time to reduce the home side to fourteen men and minutes later Joe Friel flicked the ball to net to bring the gap back to four points 2-8 to 1-7. Bundoran hit back though with good work by McEniff and McKiernan setting up Hourihane for what would be Bundoran’s last score of the game. Over the next ten minutes dogged Bundoran defending and a first class diving save from Kevin McManus kept a determined Cloughaneely scoreless. Both sides were fighting hard for every loose ball and tensions eventually spilled over with about two minutes of normal time remaining with a general melee breaking out that seen Bundoran’s McNamara and Cloughaneely’s Boyle receive their marching orders. A tense ten minutes followed as ref Sean Campbell added close to nine minutes injury time during which the visitors managed two points an Eoin McGuire free and a Joe Friel point but failed to get the vital goal they were seeking. Best for the visitors were Danny Ferry, Joe Friel and John Paul Gallagher, while James Keaney, Shane McGowan, Dara Hoey and Rossa McKiernan shone for Bundoran. The Reserve game, which was also a top of the table tussle ended in a 0-15 to 0-12 win for Cloughaneely. Bundoran: Kevin McManud, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Rossa Mckiernan, Dara Hoey, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie, Paul Delaney, Ciaran McCaughey, Michael McEniff (0-3), Jonny McHale, Dessie McNamara, Tommy Hourihane (0-1), Christy Keaney (2-4, 1pen), Fergal McKiernan (0-1). Subs: Johnny Keenan, Shane O’Donnell, Ryan Walsh, Brian Gavigan, Neal Chapman, Chris Chapman, Joey McNulty. Cloughaneely: Lee McFadden, Michael Lynch, Padraig O’Dubhchain, Eamonn Curran, Kevin Scanlon, Danny Ferry, Eoin McGuire (0-1, 1f), Ciaran McFadden, Joe Friel (1-2), Joe Boyd (0-2, 2f), JP Gallagher, Joe Gallagher, Declan McFadden (0-1), Sean McGuire (0-1, 1f), Danny Boyle (0-2, 1f). Subs: Ciaran Boyle, Gerard McGuire, Patrick Lafferty, Martin McFadden, Ciaran Scanlon, Patrick Brady, Kevin McFadden.
June 20 2009 Strong tackling from Dara Hoey turned over possession deep in the Bundoran half but the ball was quickly moved forward to midfielder Paul Delaney who fired home from close range for the first of Bundoran’s three goals. Naomh Bríd responded immediately when a good move involving Dermot Curristan and David Walsh saw Gavin Gallagher hit the visitor’s fourth point. Chisty Keaney responded with a point for Bundoran and Pauric McDaid converted his third free to leave it 1-4 to 0-5. Incisive Bundoran play, however, opened up the Naomh Bríd defence again and Ciaran McCaughey was hauled to the ground as he rounded the keeper. Christy Keaney made no mistake with the penalty and Bundoran were five points up with five minutes to the break. It was enough time for the Ballintra-Laghey outfit to claw themselves back into contention. McDaid hoisted over two soft frees and Pauric McDaid pointed from play to leave just two points between the teams at the interval. Bundoran came roaring out of the blocks in the second half. A monstrous long range point from McKiernan after barely 30 seconds was immediately added to by a Christy Keaney free. Bundoran were not to score again for over fifteen minutes though. Dermot Langan and Pauric McDaid began to dominate around the middle of the park but Naomh Bríd had only a converted McDaid free to show for their efforts by the eighteenth minute at which stage Keaney finally got Bundoran’s forward momentum moving again with a short-range free. Tommy Hourihane then scored his first point of the day but this was soon negated by a David Walsh’s first point of the day for Naomh Bríd. Hourihane then converted a free and sealed the game when he got on the end of a sweeping move to stab the ball to the net, leaving the score-line at 3-9 to 0-10. Hourihane completed Bundoran’s scoring for the day with his third point and David Walsh knocked over a free in the last kick of the game. Aside from their scoring forwards Bundoran also had stars in Niall Dunne, Rossa McKiernan, Ryan Walsh and Dara Hoey, while best for Naomh Bríd were Dermot Langan, Rory Griffen, JP Langan and Dermot Curristan. The Reserve game was played after the senior tie but was a one-sided affair. Bundoran were seven points ahead after the first quarter and the result in the bag with a half-time lead of 1-11 to 0-5, running out 1-19 to 0-9 point winners at the end-up. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Ryan Walsh, Rossa McKiernan, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie, Niall Dunne, Paul Delaney (1-0), Mark Travers (0-1), Ciaran McCaughey, Dara Hoey, Tommy Hourihane (1-3, 1f), Christy Keaney (1-4, 1-2f), Fergal McKiernan (0-2). Subs: Barry McGowan, Jonathan McHale and Declan Rafferty. Naomh Bríd: G Gallagher, G McCafferty, S Gormley, R Griffen, D McCafferty, JP Langan, J Timoney, P McGroary, D Curristan, J McNulty, D Walsh (0-2), O Harron, G Gallagher (0-1), D Langan (0-2), P McDaid (0-6, 6f). Subs used: P Gormley, S Doherty, K Timoney and S McDaid.
May 29 2009 With the breeze now in their backs the visitors were quickly off the mark in the second half hitting three unanswered points in the first five minutes to leave it 3-8 to 0-8 and a comeback was on the cards. Bundoran, however, were not there for the taking and showed plenty of grit and determination to reply in kind, Christy Keaney on the mark first from a free and then with two from play to restore Bundoran’s 12 point advantage. Friel and Aidan McAteer got further scores for Fanad but Bundoran were well in control for the last ten minutes and into the seven minutes of added time and ran out convincing winners on a 3-13 to 0-11 scoreline. For Bundoran, Hourihane and Christy Keaney scored some beautiful points, while James Keaney was outstanding in their defence, Dessie McNamara played an intelligent sweeping role, Shane McGowan orchestrated a lot of the home side’s counter attacks and Paul Delaney was very industrious around the middle of the park. Hit by Bundoran’s opening salvo, Fanad never managed to get completely into their stride but nevertheless, Seimi Friel the full forward proved a handful for the Bundoran defence, ably abetted by his namesake in the corner and by Aidan McAteer while Michael Sweeney was majestic in the air throughout the game. In the curtain raiser the early pattern of the game resembled the senior tie with Bundoran reserves rushing into a 1-6 to 0-1 lead within fifteen minutes helped by a goal in the first minute from Po O’Donnell. Fanad recovered over the third quarter to leave it 1-9 to 0-5 at the break. A full-blown recovery looked looked on the cards until Gavin Croghan hit Bundoran’s second goal and they finished a comfortable seven points ahead on a 2-15 to 1-11 scoreline. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney, Ryan Walsh, Peter McGonigle, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie (1-0), Niall Dunne, Paul Delaney, Michael McEniff, Ciaran McCaughey, Dessie McNamara, Tommy Hourihane (0-7, 4f), Christy Keaney (2-5, 1-2f), Fergal McKiernan (0-1). Subs used: Rossa McKiernan and Declan Rafferty. Fanad Gaels: Martin McConigley, Cathal Martin, Francis Sweeny, Patrick Heraghty, Patrick Shiels, Paddy McConigley, Martin Robinson, Michael Sweeney, Brendan Callaghan, Colm McElwaine, Colm Talbot (0-1), Aidan McAteer (0-1), Seimi Friel (0-8,6f), Seimi Friel. Subs used: Willie McAteer (0-1) and Ephraim McFadden. Donegal Post Bundoran started this game at a blistering pace and with the wind in their backs went into a very early lead when Tommy Hourihane was felled in the penalty area in the first minute. Christy Keaney stroked home the penalty and followed up with a point from play immediately afterwards. Fanad got off the mark with a Seimi Friel point but Tommy Hourihane pointed from a free to leave Bundoran four clear after seven minutes. It got even better for the home side in the tenth minute when a raking pass from Hourihane found Keaney behind the fullback and he slammed in his second goal. Another Hourihane free made it 2-3 and from the kick-out Richie Fitzgerald robbed Patrick Shiels and his long ball into full-foeward line deceived everyone and bounced over the keeper to leave the surreal score-line of 3-3 to 0-1 after 12 minutes. Fergal McKiernan opened the gap to twelve with Bundoran’s fourth point a minute later but, incredibly, after that scoring burst it would be another 13 minutes before Bundoran troubled the umpires again. In the intervening time however, Fanad only managed two scores a Seimi Friel free and Colm Talbot from play. Bundoran then hit three on the trot all from the boot of Hourihane including two frees. Coming up to the break Fanad added to further points both frees from the boot of the uneeringly accurate Friel but Bundoran had the last score of the half, Christy Keaney converting a 45 to leave it 3-8 to 0-5 at the break. With the breeze now in their backs Gaels were quickly off the mark in the second half. Within a minute Friel knocked over a 45 and substitute Willie McAteer fired over from play and it looked like the elements might make it a game of two halfs. Five minute in and Friel converted his fifth dead ball to make it 3-8 to 0-8. The next five minutes proved crucial as Bundoran lifted the siege and re-asserted their grip on the game as a Keaney free was followed by two further excellent points from play from the full-forward to move the gap back to 12 points. Friel and Aidan McAteer got further scores for Fanad but Bundoran were well in control for the last ten minutes with Tommy Hourihane arching over a magnificent point from near the sideline and another from about 50m out to give the Seasiders a very convincing 3-13 to 0-11 win and shatter Fanad Gael’s unbeaten record. For Bundoran, Hourihane and Christy Keaney proved an enormous handful for the Fanad rearguard, while James Keaney was outstanding in their defence. Dessie McNamara played an intelligent sweeping role, Shane McGowan orchestrated a lot of the home side’s counter attacks and Paul Delaney was very industrious around the middle of the park. Hit by Bundoran’s opening salvo, Fanad never managed to get completely into their stride but nevertheless, Seimi Friel the full forward looked a class act throughout and was ably abetted by Aidan McAteer and Colm Talbot while Michael Sweeney was majestic in the air throughout the game. Apr 26 2009 Bundoran should have equalised, however, with Michael McEniff going close and Tommy Hourihan missing a free after a foul on Peter McGonigle before Dowds made it four points to two with an excellent long range wind-assisted effort from near the sideline. Burt were now making good use of the wind and picking up the breaks around the middle. Dessie McNamara and Kevin McManus both caught important balls under pressure in the Bundoran square, Micky McHugh pointed from a tight angle, a Joe Boyle effort just swung wide and then McHugh pointed again on 30 minutes to give the visitors what looked like a 6-2 half-time lead. The three minutes of added time saw three scores, however. Niall Dunne swung a free kick wide and McEniff intercepted the short kick-out and pointed. The same player set up Tommy Hourihan to reduce the margin to two points but the home side then conceded a cheap free and Boyle pointed to leave it 0-7 to 0-4 at the break. Like Bundoran in the first half, Burt started best against the elements. Joe Boyle made it double scores two minutes into the half with a converted free. Fergal McKiernan got Bundoran back on the scoreboard three minutes later with a good long-range point. Bundoran might have goaled from the kick-out when James Keaney intercepted another short one but failed to see brother Christy over-lapping and his hasty shot went wide. Burt re-established their four point lead though on thirty minutes with another Joe Boyle free. The game’s crucial score followed almost immediately. Sterling defending by Diarmuid McCaughey and Niall Dunne disrupted a Burt attack and Shane McGowan’s pinpoint pass from his own 21m line found McEniff in open space in the middle of the field before Burt’s stretched defence had time to get back and the minor carried the ball to the 21 m line before giving Brown no chance in the Burt goal. The ball spent most of the time in the Bundoran half over the next five minutes and the visitors missed two scoreable frees with a crowded Bundoran defence allowing Burt little opportunity from play. There was lot of space being left in the Burt half though and a long ball from McEniff found Christy Keaney and Fergal McKiernan in a two on one situation 20 m out and Reddan wisely conceded a free which McKiernan pointed to leave the game level at 1-6 to 0-9 as the game entered the last quarter. It was more of the same for the next ten minutes with Burt having the greater share of possession and missing a further four frees before Dara Hoey went narrowly wide for Bundoran with a long-range shot. The kick-out went straight to Fergal McKiernan who un-selfishly played in McEniff who opted to fist the ball over rather than go for a second goal. The last five minutes saw Burt continue to pile on the pressure as they searched for their equaliser but again they missed two scoreable frees before Liam Brown blew the final whistle. Best for Bundoran were Dessie McNamara, Shane McGowan and Peter McGonigle, while Paddy McDermott, Ciaran Dowds and Ronan McLaughlin starred for Burt. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney (0-1), Ryan Walsh, Peter McGonigle, Shane McGowan, Richie Gillespie, Niall Dunne, Ciaran McCaughey, Michael McEniff (1-2), Christy Keaney, Dara Hoey, Fergal McKiernan (0-3, 2f), Dessie McNamara, Tommy Hourihan (0-1). Subs: Ashley Mulhern, Declan Rafferty, Chris Chapman and Rory Dunne. Burt: Dermot Brown, Seamus O’Donnell, Eamonn Reddan, Mark McGavigan, Rory Grant, Andy Wallace, Mickey McCann, Paddy McDermott (0-1), Ciaran Dowds (0-2), Dermot Callaghan, Joe Boyle (0-4, 4f), Brian Sheerin, Micky McHugh (0-2), Ronan MacLaughlin, Paul McHugh. Subs Dara Grant, Johnny Downey, Barry Friel, Brian Harrigan and Enda McDermott. Mar 22 2009 Bundoran got out of the blocks quickly in the second period, McKiernan pointing twice to make it 1-7 to 0-4. Hesitation in the Bundoran defence saw the game thrown wide open again when Damien Melly lofted the ball behind the Bundoran defence which bounced high above Kevin McManus the Bundoran keeper and was flicked on by the inrushing Caulfield to the net. The home side responded well, however, neutralising the impact by hitting three points on the trot to move the score difference back out to six points at the quarter hour mark. Indiscipline, however, let the visitors back in. Some handbags at the edge of the Bundoran square saw the visitors having to give up forward possession for a hop ball back on their own 14m line that ended up as a free which Caulfield converted. Within five minutes Bundoran had coughed up three more converted frees, the margin was back to two points and Na Rossa were in the ascendancy. A length of the pitch move seen Bundoran get back on track with a Michael McEniff point and almost immediately afterwards Tommy Hourihane popped the home side’s twelfth point over to further steady their nerves and they saw out the game with a further two scores to secure a victory that was not quite as comfortable as the six point margin suggests. In the Reserve tie, Bundoran were very comfortable winners as a young side featuring a lot of the minor talent of recent years steam-rolled an under-strength Na Rossa. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, James Keaney (1-0), Barry McGowan, Peter McGonigle, Shane McGowan, Ryan Walsh, Niall Dunne, Paul Delaney, Michael McEniff (0-1), Dessie McNamara (0-1), Christy Keaney (0-1), Fergal McKiernan (0-7), Ciaran McCaughey, Tommy Hourihan (0-4). Subs Caolan Devanney, Shane McCready, Peter Gallagher, Declan Bonner and Donal Devanney. Ref: Connie O’Gara
June 29 2008 Bundoran were now motoring. Dessie McNamara, who was really on his game, fired the ball over from almost centre-field before catching the kick-out and setting up Peter McGonigle who was pulled down. Christy Keaney converted the free. Rossa McKiernan, on the stroke of half-time, ran through the heart of the Urris defence and looped the ball over with the outside of his right foot to give Bundoran a nine point advantage and well-placed for facing into the second-half breeze. Urris, however, were not for throwing in the towel so early and two injury-time frees - from Mark McLaughlin and Dara Doherty - left it 1-8 to 0-4 at the break. Urris started the second half a much livelier outfit. Simon Friel drove over Urris’ fifth point within a minute and they recorded two wides in quick succession before midfielder Patrick Doherty emulated McNamara with a long-range point – Urris’s fourth in a row to leave just five points between the sides. It was nearly down to two a minute later when a rasping shot from Kieran Friel was turned onto the crossbar by Johny Mo Keenan in the Bundoran goals. Shane O’Donnell broke up a promising Urris move on the edge of the square almost straight afterwards and that was as good as it got for Urris. A Dara Hoey point – Bundoran’s first of the second half – steadied the ship. Indeed it could have been a goal with Tommy Hourihane’s initial shot coming off the base of the post. Hourihane himself converted a free to further stretch the Seasider’s lead and while Peter Devlin replied for Urris, Shane Moohan cancelled any advantage out with Bundoran’s eleventh point. The defining score came on the quarter hour mark. Christy Keaney shaped to stroke over a 14 m free but by either accident or design his shot cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and into the net catching the Urris defence by surprise to leave it 2-11 to 0-7. To their credit the Inishowen side re-grouped and hit the next two scores, the first a softly awarded free converted by Darragh Doherty and the second a well-taken point by his midfield namesake Patrick Doherty after a good move involving Liam Diver and Alan Friel. The revival was short-lived though. Only minutes on the park Michael McEniff pointed for Bundoran and a sweeping move straight after ended with Shane Moohan driving the ball home to leave it 3-12 to 0-9. This score killed off any lingering hopes Urris might have harboured. Declan O’Donnell continued the trend of substitutes coming on to score when he made it 3-13 and Hourihane had the last say with a tap-over to give Bundoran a confidence-restoring victory ahead of their championship encounter with MacCumhaills next weekend. Bundoran: Johnny Keenan, Barry McGowan, Shane O’Donnell, Diarmuid McCaughey, Rossa McKiernan (0-1), James Keaney, Peter McGonigle, Shane McGowan, Dessie McNamara (0-2), Dara Fallon (0-2), Dara Hoey (0-1), Christy Keaney (1-2), Declan Rafferty, Fergal McKiernan (0-1), Shane Moohan (1-1). Subs used Rhys Goodwin and Conor McEniff. June 25 2008 Bundoran played their best football immediately after the resumption with Ciaran McCaughey revelling in his new full-forward role with some selfless passing. While he didn’t score he was at the centre of most of the seven points Bundoran scored in the first ten minutes of the second period to put the game beyond doubt. Leading 2-14 to 0-5 at the three-quarter mark, the home side then ditched the passing game which had proved successful as players reverted to seeking their own scores rather than finding men in better positions. However, they finished the game strongly with three points in the last two minutes. Over the course of the game Bundoran recorded 18 wides, most of them scoreable, which gives an idea of their dominance. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Ryan Walsh, Niall Gillespie, Gavin Croghan, Adam Dunmore, Rossa McKiernan, Ciaran Gunne, Shane McGowan (0-2), Peter McGonigle (0-3), Ashley Mulhern (0-1), Dara Hoey (0-4), Johnny McHale (1-1), Johnny Ward (0-5), Ciaran McCaughey, Shane Moohan (1-4). Subs: Jamie Spratt (0-1), Chris Gaye, Paul Cassidy, Matthew McCabe, Stephen Ryan. June 21 2008 June 15 2008 June 6 2008 The second half belonged to Bundoran, however. Christy Keaney levelled matters for the third time four minutes into the second half and a Fergal McKiernan point shortly thereafter gave Bundoran the lead for the first time. Dessie McNamara and Shane McGowan began to dominate around the middle and anything that eluded them was being swept up by the Bundoran half-back line of Rossa McKiernan, Peter McGonigle and James Keaney and the roaming Christy Keaney. Wing half-back for Downings Aaron McClafferty made two strong forward forays for Downings in the first tern minutes of the half but seemed to tire thereafter as Michael McEniff began to create opportunities for his inside line as Hourihane knocked over two points from play to move Bundoran three clear. Christy Keaney added a beauty and McEniff became the last of the six starting forwards to score when he added hit the ninth point. On the three-quarter mark Shane McGowan made it 10—4 and there seemed to be no way back for Downings. Hourihane added his fourth and corner back Peter McGonigle also got on the scoreboard before 23 minutes into the half Downings finally scored, a fine individual effort from Eric Roberts. Downings had thrown in the towel as the Keaney brothers helped themselves to a point each and Shane Moohan, probably Bundoran’s most impressive forward on the day, got the last point of the game to leave it 15-6. Best for Bundoran were Dessie McNamara, Rossa McKiernan, Diarmuid McCaughey, Peter McGonigle, Shane Moohan and Christy Keaney whose shot selections were often poor but he got through a huge amount of work all around the field. For Downings, Finian McClafferty, Míheal Bradley and Sean Boyce were the most impressive players on the day. Despite the comprehensive nature of their win, Bundoran will need to up their game considerably in the next round if they are to compete with McCumhaills. Downings: Danny McGruddy, Rory Connor, David Hay, David Baxter, Shane McClafferty, James McBride, Darren Green, Sean McBride, Miheal Bradley, Aaron McClafferty, Gary McClafferty (0-3, 3F), Eric Roberts (0-1, Sean Boyce (0-1), Finian McClafferty, Brian Curran. Subs used: Declan Rafferty and Declan O’Donnell. June 9 2008 With the wind in their backs Kilcar forged further ahead in the early minutes of the second half with points from Andrew McLean, McBrearty and Doherty, with Brennan adding one for Bundoran. The game looked all but over when a long range shot from Doherty ended in the net to give Kilcar a 3-10 to 1-7 lead. Bundoran, however, showed the character which got them to this final in the first place, wresting control of the midfield area briefly and following two bad wides Jamie Brennan managed to fire a low shot to the corner of the net to give the Seasiders hope. Minutes later Niall Carr got Bundoran’s second goal and the hope of a revival flickered. Kilcar hit back with points from Doherty and McBrearty and then Rory Malaniff scored a beauty for Bundoran to keep them in touch. A shot from Cian McEniff nearly crept in to the far corner but Michael Cunningham in the Kilcar goal deflected it for a 45 and this was as close as Bundoran were to get. The 45 was cleared upfield ending in another long range shot from Doherty which seemed to have been well saved by Bundoran goalie Max Muller but the umpire signalled he was behind his line. Kilcar quickly added another point and were home and dry. Bundoran continued to mount attacks but they were going for goals at this stage and Kilcar were defending their line reasonably comfortably and catching Bundoran on the break as they coasted through the final five minutes to deservedly end up as Nirvana Restaurant Division 2 champions. Best for the winners were Jason Campbell, Cormac Cannon, Stephen Mcbrearty, Andrew McClean and Conor Doherty who had a personal tally of 2-7, half the Kilcar total. For Bundoran Jane Carty stood out for her determination to battle for every ball down to the last minute of the game, while Max Muller, Shane Carr, Rory Malaniff and Niall Cullen played well for Bundoran. Matt Gallagher presented the trophy on behalf of the Southern Minor Board and Nirvana Restaurant and both teams now progress to the County semi-finals where Bundoran meet Northern Champions Convoy and Kilcar play runners-up Red Hughs. Bundoran: Max Muller, Brendan Oates, Aidan Mitchell, Paul Murphy, Shane Carr, Conor Dawson, Niall Cullen, Jamie Brennan (1-3), Rory Malaniff (0-1), Cian McEniff, Jane Carty (0-2), Niall Carr (2-0), Timothy Govorov, Stephen Cassidy (0-1), David Hastings (0-1). Subs used: Tracey Byrne, Annie Moore, Shona Campbell, Mary Garvey and Pauric McShane, June 4 2008 May 30 2008 The game is decided less than ten minutes into the second half. Bundoran add points through Goodwin and Neal Chapman but when Stephen Reilly bags two goals within a minute. The Cloughaneely heads do not go down, however, as they add two further points but these are matched by Bundoran scores from Diarmuid Spratt and Stephen Reilly and Brian Larry Cassidy adds a fisted goal to make it 3-10 to 0-6. Cloughaneely fight back to score a goal but this is dis-allowed for a square ball and Bundoran cruise to the finish as Cloughaneely finally give up the ghost. Best for Bundoran were Brandon Goodwin, Adam Coyne, Stephen Reilly, Rory O’Reilly, Sean McGlone and Niall McGonigle. Bundoran: Ciaran Carty, Rory Boxer O’Reilly, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Darren Nails Cassidy, Neal Chapman (0-2), David Stuttard, Niall McGonigle, Stephen Reilly (2-2), Adam Coyne (0-3), Gary Clancy, Brandon Goodwin (0-5), Diarmuid Spratt (0-1), Brian McManus, Brian Larry Cassidy (1-0), Lee Creevy. Subs Tracey Byrne, Annie Moore, Shona Campbell, Mary Garvey, Paddy McShane, Brian Carr, Ciaran Hegarty, Donna Carr, Fiona McShane, Lauren McGinley May 14 2008 Shane Moohan got Bundoran back on the scoreboard with a well-taken point but Breen done likewise for Nauls. Moohan who was Bundoran’s most dangerous target man at this stage popped over another point and Jonny Ward narrowed the gap to three with his first score of the game. On the stroke of half-time Breen hit his fourth point to leave it 1-4 to 2-5 at the interval. Nauls were first off the mark in the second period with a Breen converting a close-in free to give Nauls a five point gap for the third time in the game. But that was as good as it got for them. Shane Moohan opened Bundoran’s second half a account with a drilled shot that split the posts. A trio of Stephen Reilly points, the first from a free and two well taken shots from distance reduced the gap to a point. A foul on Chris Gaye saw him leave the action and Michael McEniff replaced him and was immediately called into action to hit over the resultant free and leave the scores level. Minutes later Stephen Reilly got on the end of a flowing move to score Bundoran’s second goal and McEniff fisted over a point to move the gap out to four 2-10 to 2-6. Nauls were not giving up, however, and had their own purple patch starting with a point from Breen which he created himself with a good run. They had two wides before Breen converted another free to reduce the gap to just two. Mark O’Donnell missed a good opportunity to reduce the gap to a minimum, possibly crucially as Bundoran’s McEniff caught the kick-out and linked with McGonigle and McCabe before punching the ball over the bar to get the Seasiders back on track. He returned the favour to McCabe a minute later and it was now 2-12 to 2-8. Breen hit a good point in reply but that was Naul’s last hurrah as Bundoran closed out the game with points from McEniff, Adam Coyne and two from Reilly. Bundoran now await the winners of the Section 2 play-off between Dungloe and Ardara on Monday. Bundoran: Ciaran Carty, Peadar O’Keefe, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Stephen Ryan, Ryan Walsh, Niall Gillespie, Adam Coyne, Peter McGonigle (1-0), Brandon Goodwin, Matthew McCabe, Neal Chapman, Stephen Reilly (1-5, 1F), Shane Moohan (0-3), Chris Gaye and Jonathan Ward (0-1). May 12 2008 – Under -12s make it to the Nirvana Restaurant Regional League Final A re-invigorated Bundoran then turned on the style with Niall Carr striking over two beautiful points. Nauls struck back when Joe McIntyre converted another free. But Jamie Brennan stretched Bundoran’s lead when he tapped the ball over from 5m under severe pressure from a massed Nauls defence. Salvation for Nauls was at hand, however. A long ball into the Bundoran square was deflected past Bundoran keeper Max Muller by Aidan Mitchell and it was a one point game and Nauls moved back into the driving seat again as McIntyre and Murray began to dominate around the middle of the park. Their shooting let them down, however, as they posted three wides in succession and paid the price five minutes before the break when Jamie Brennan broke loose from the tight marking, but stylish, Manus Darby to lob the ball across the goal and in off the post to put the home side four points up. Bundoran then had two lucky escapes, the first when a Sean Burke shot hit the post and the second when a dangerous ball into the square was deflected past Muller by corner back Paul Murphy but this time the ball squeaked narrowly wide. A fine individual point from Nauls’ corner forward Stephen Meehan left it 2-3 to 1-3 at the break. In the first five minutes of the second half Bundoran were on fire. Jane Brennan hit an excellent point followed by an equally good score from Cian McEniff. Nauls just couldn’t get the ball out of their half but were let off the hook by Bundoran’s inaccuracies with Stephen Cassidy dropping two, and Jane Carty one, ball into the goalies hands while McEniff and Jamie Brennan both posted wides. Then the tide turned. A long ball into the Bundoran danger area was caught cleanly by big full-forward Sean Burke who turned took two steps forward and drilled the ball past Muller. Within minutes Nauls were ahead when Stephen Meehan again showed his marker a clean pair of heels solo-ing in from the left-hand side and smashing the ball into the net to give the visitors a 3-3 to 2-5 lead. Bundoran refused to lie down but the Nauls boys were equally animated and the pace of the game shifted up another gear. For five minutes the ball pinged up and down the field with both teams coming close and when a score finally came it was Bundoran who got it – and it proved defining. A great pass from Stephen Cassidy found Jane Carty 14 m out and she rounded the full back to fire the ball into the corner of the goals. A minute later Niall Carr struck a wonderful point to leave it three points between the sides. With ten minutes left Nauls still had plenty of time but a mixture of tenacious Bundoran defending loose passing and inaccurate shooting proved their undoing. Brendan Oates and Aidan Mitchell intercepted crucially at times when Nauls looked like breaking through, Paul Murphy made a goal-saving tackle on Daniel Brennan and Sean Burke, Manus Darby and James Murray all posted wides in a frantic five minute spell. Nauls commitment to attack left gaps at the back, however. A Shane Carr clearance was won by David Hastings who found Jane Carty and her through ball was half-volleyed soccer style by Cian McEniff for a superb goal. When Jamie Brennan posted his second point of the game to make it 4-7 to 3-3 with just four minutes left the writing was on the wall for Nausl. Second-half sub Timmy Govorov almost put the icing on the cake but forced onto his left foot his shot was easily saved. He recovered to block the clearance however and Jane Carty picked up the rebound for her second point and Bundoran were home and dry. In what was a stirring team performance it would be unfair to single out any Bundoran player for praise and it is a testament to how this team has come on that the scoring burden is now shared across the team rather than being reliant on Jamie Brennan – he got all the scores bar 2 in the corresponding fixture in Mountcharles. Nauls also had a great team performance - the 1-5 margin in no way reflects the difference between the sides in a game that could have gone either way until the last five minutes – but they had some excellent individual performances from Marcus Darby, James Murray, Brian Griffin, Steven Meehan and Leah Burke. Bundoran’s next tie is a home game against Kilcar. Both teams are through to the regional final with Kilcar unbeaten to date and Bundoran’s only loss being on their trip to Towney. Naomh Naille: Patrick Rose, Patrick Doherty, Liam McHugh, Luke Boyle, Brian Griffin, Brendan McCole, Manus Darby, Jamie Murray, Joe McIntyre (0-1), Martin Breslin (0-1), Leah Burke, Patrick Roarty, Daniel Brennan, Sean Burke (1-0), Stephen Meehan. Subs: Gary Quigley, Mark Boyle, Christopher McGlynn and Sean Griffen. Bundoran: Max Muller, Paul Murphy, Aidan Mitchell, Brendan Oates, Niall Cullen, Shane Carr, Conor Dawson, Rory Malaniff, Stephen Cassidy, David Hastings (1-0), Jamie Brennan (1-2), Niall Carr (0-3), Cian McEniff (1-1), Kelvin Mulhern, Jane Carty (1-2). Subs used: Timmy Govorov, Dylan Stuttard and Caoimhín Drummond. May 10 2008 Within five minutes of the re-start the visitors were level thanks to two Tommy Hourihane frees. Downings remained dangerous, however, and when Peter McGonigle collided with Finian McClafferty the ball broke free to Eric Roberts who bore down on Bundoran goal-keeper Kevin McManus but with a tight angle the goalkeeper turned his shot onto the outside of the post and it deflected to the safe hands of Shane O’Donnell. With Bundoran now dominating the middle of the park, their forwards began to get the chance to put themselves where they needed to be – ahead - but Christy Keaney and Fergal McKiernan both squandered good opportunities. Fifteen minutes into the half they finally ht the front when McEniff set up Keaney who impressively fired the ball over with his weaker left peg. The lead lasted only two minutes with McClafferty converting Downings fifth free to leave it 0-6 apiece. Bundoran were still looking the more likely with Dessie McNamara and Shane McGowan catching most high balls around the middle and Adam Dunmore and James Keaney sweeping up anything loose. The opportunities were coming thick and fast but as in Gaelic Park two weeks earlier, chances were going a begging. A poor pass from Moohan went behind the on-rushing McEniff for what could have been a goal opportunity and McEniff, played in by Fergal McKiernan, hit the ball wide when it looked easier to score. Then it was McKiernan’s turn to shoot wide of the mark and the same player could have made amends minutes later but McEniff badly over-cooked the pass. Having messed up four good opportunities Bundoran done it the hard way and with about seven minutes remaining they regained the lead as Hourihane caught a high ball, turned and boomed the liathróid between the posts from about 50 m out. With about a minute of normal time remaining the visitors won themselves breathing space. James Keaney, now playing at full forward, was put through by Declan Rafferty and tapped the ball over and it was eight points to six. With Robbie O’Donnell deciding to play eight minutes of injury time it turned out Bundoran needed this breathing space as there was plenty of drama to come. McEniff seemed to be about to stretch the lead to three when he appeared to be tripped by Barney Curran, but the referee deemed otherwise. Downings quickly converted defence to attack and midfielder miheal Bradley fired over a point from distance to make it 8-7. Downings were now committing everything to attack and Bundoran were defending commensurately. A superb block by McGonigle and a wide from Sean Boyce kept Bundoran ahead, just. Six minutes into injury time Downings were awarded a 35 mn free close to the sideline with the ball dropping just under the crossbar Dessie McNamara fisted it clear for a 45. The 45 was delayed as O’Donnell red-carded Declan Rafferty for an off-the-ball incident. Downings took the 45 short but with all bar two Bundoran players in that half of the field despite some good inter-passing they were afforded no shooting opportunities and when corner-forward Tommy Hourihane regained possession for the visitors 30 m out from his own goal and cleared the ball up-field to McKiernan the game was up for the home side. With Bundoran winning by just the narrowest of margins, the outcome of the play-off game will be a tight call. While Bundoran won the possession stakes comfortably in both games Downings have proved to be a more efficient and more economical outfit. No date has yet confirmed for the third game while Sean McCumhaills await the winners. Downings:. Apr 28 2008 First blood went to Downings in the second half with another McClafferty free but from then until the final couple of minutes Bundoran almost completely dominated the possession stakes but had left their shooting boots behind in the dressing room. McEniff finally registered Bundoran’s first score of the half after 12 minutes and three wides. Four more Bundoran wides followed before Downings extended their lead with Robert’s long range effort hitting the inside of the post to make it 9-7. Downings then nearly put the game beyond reach but a superb save from McManus from a one-on-one with Seamus Gallagher saved the day, temporarily, for the seasiders. Within minutes Bundoran had a golden opportunity to take the lead when a sweeping move involving McEniff, Peter McGonigle and Shane Moohan put Christy Keaney through but his shot close range shot hit the side-netting. The home side registered just their second score of the half from a McKiernan free on twenty minutes and having earned a free himself, the same player missed a chance to equalise from a closer kick two minutes later. On the re-start the home side came close again when Coyle tipped a McGonigle shot onto the bar and was fouled on gathering the rebound. With time ticking away Bundoran had two more bad wides and one last goal-chance when a McNamara shot from the edge of the square was blocked by a combination of Kevin McHugh and David Hay. In contrast to the home side, Downings were well capable of converting their scoring opportunities and Gary McClafferty put the icing on the cake with the visitor’s tenth score with a 14m free from a very acute angle. In a game that threatened to boil over 15 minutes in and again just before half-time, Kieran McShea managed to defuse tensions and the second half was a much more sporting affair. While its double advantage to Downings for the second game - home advantage and a game up - if Bundoran can improve on their shooting and approach work in front of the posts this tie will go to three matches. Best for Bundoran were Rossa McKiernan, Barry McGowan, Richie Gillespie and Diarmuid McCaughey, while for Downings the sharp-shooting Gary McClafferty and Eric Roberts stood out as did Miheal Bradley and David Hay. May 7 2008 – Under -16s win the Donegal Adventure Centre Regional League Bundoran’s response to this setback was almost instantaneous as Adam Coyne solo’d through the Aodh Ruadh defence and slotted the ball home just inside the left-hand post and Goodwin followed up with his third point to make it 1-5 to 1-1. Aodh Ruadh’s key strategy of running at the Bundoran defence was not working against the hard tackling of Chapman, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio and Niall McGonigle and while the Bundoran side were conceding an uncommonly large number of frees they were all outside scoring distance. On the stroke of half-time Gary Clancy scored from distance with his weaker left foot to give the Seasiders a five-point interval advantage. Bundoran won the throw-in but immediately conceded possession with a foul by Stephen Reilly who appeared to pick up a booking but it must have been a tick as he also seemed to be booked ten minutes later. All in all Bundoran’s tackling did not seem to accord with referee Gabriel O’Donnell’s definition as they conceded 31 frees throughout the game while winning just 8. Five minutes into the half Goodwin registered his fourth point and Bundoran’s seventh. The same player added another before Luke Toland got the Ballyshannon boys off the mark. With Bundoran over-elabourating in front of the posts and Aodh Ruadh plain inaccurate the standard of forward play was leaving much to be desired as the half progressed. Coyne hit a beautiful point on 45 minutes to lighten up the rather prosaic proceedings. Aodh Ruadh’s second half offensive strategy of hitting full-forward with long balls nearly paid off three times in the final quarter but a combination of tenacious defending and bad luck kept Aodh Ruadh scoreless. Under pressure both Boyle and Niall Thomas hit wides but Martin Larkin then pointed an easy free to keep Aodh Ruadh within two scores. The Ballyshannon boys nearly got the break they were looking for but Niall Murray’s shot came back off the outside of the post and was cleared by Nails Cassidy. Minutes later David Stuttard put in a great block on Peter Boyle’s goal-bound shot but Boyle got the upper hand with the next fifty-fifty ball but drove the ball off the crossbar. The clearance began a well worked move that ended with Diarmuid Spratt despatching the ball over the bar and it was curtains for a gallant Aodh Ruadh. Best for Bundoran were David Stuttard, Rory O’Reilly, Diarmuid Spratt, Stephen Reilly, Brandon Goodwin, Niall McGonigle and Adam Coyne, while for Aodh Ruadh the stars were Conor Patton, Ronan Drummond, Gerard Kelly, Ruari Drummond and Peter Boyle. May 5 2008 Bundoran had most of the early possession in the second half but Conor Cassidy was the grateful recipient of a lot of shots that fell short before Brennan pounced on a loose ball to drill the ball to the net and the home side had hit the front. A Brennan free extended their lead and it would be a full ten minutes before another score was registered, Naomh Bríd’s first of the half to make it 2-4 to 2-3. A superb block by Niall Cullen prevented the equalising point and then as the game entered the last five minutes we had high drama. A long looping shot from Niall Carr was misjudged by the otherwise impeccable Cassidy and all f a sudden Bundoran had breathing space. McGrory got one back to make it 3-4 to 2-4 and then Byrne’s shot shaved the wrong side of the post when it seemed Naomh Bríd were about to equalise. The final score of the game, a converted free by Jamie Brennan secured two valuable points for the home side to keep them in pole position for the regional final. Naomh Bríd: Conor Cassidy, Peter Gorman, Sean Duffy, Gary Timoney, Shane Timoney, Ultan Egan, Shane Ward, Owen McGarrigle, Craig McGrory (0-2), Ciaran Boyle (0-1), Gerard Martin, Gerard Gallagher (0-1), Killian Byrne (2-0), Eoghan Quinn. May 2 2008 The game’s outcome hinged on the first eight minutes of the second half. McEniff, now at midfield quickly set up Jonny Ward who still had a lot to do but rounded his man and despite a good save by Conor Murray was quick enough to finish the ball to the net. Three minutes later substitute Chris Gaye put Ward through again and he coolly slotted the ball past Murray. When Michael McEniff slotted over from close to the sideline Killybegs were six points behind and in trouble. It should have been curtains minutes afterwards when Peter McGonigle set up Gaye on the edge of the small square but Murray made a superb save and Killybegs cleared the rebound. Fifteen minutes in a Donal Maguire free finally got Killybegs off the mark to leave it 2-3 to 0-4 but Shane Moohan quickly restored the Seasiders’ two goal advantage. McNern narrowed the deficit and again Moohan negated the advantage with a shot that skimmed the bar. With the clock ticking down Killybegs came close but McEniff was back on the line to clear the danger. Maguire got another point for Killybegs and on the stroke of full-time a fabulous tackle from Niall Gillespie certainly stopped McNern getting what could have been a face-saving goal for Killybegs but Terence McShea blew for time seconds later and the two crucial points went to Bundoran. Killybegs: Conor Murray, Jason Ward, Ciaran Connaghton, Ryan O’Hara, Ronan Dunne, Ronan Boyle, Dylan Kyles, Louis McNern (0-2), Gavin Boyle, Mark McCloskey, Brian Campbell, Paul McFadden, Donal McGuire (0-4), Paul Molloy, Sean McLoughlin. April 21 2008 April 23 2008 April 23 2008 Four Masters drew first blood with an Oisin McGinely point and Conor McDaid made it 2-0 before a Stephen Reilly free got Bundoran off the mark. Shane Moohan hit a nice point to being the sides level and Matthew McCabe gave them the lead, taking his point rather than opting to go for goal from about 6 metres out. Josh Lacey soon equalised for Masters in what was shaping up to be a tight match. That perception soon changed as Michael McEniff suddenly sprang to life. Starting a move deep within his own half he popped up 30m out to drive the ball over the bar. Minutes later following a one-two with Moohan he hit shaved the outside of the post as he went for goal from about ten metres out but made no mistake from a similar angle sixty seconds later. Stephen Reilly hit another point to leave it 1-5 to 0-3. This was as good as it got for Bundoran as Four Masters were about to hit 2-7 without reply. A McDaid free got the scoreboard moving for the Donegal side. A poor Bundoran pass coming out of defence was gathered Ryan Muldoon and his high ball into the Bundoran square was met by the fist of John Boyle and it was suddenly 1-4 to 1-5 and game on again. Boyle was quickly on the mark again to level matters and Paul McIntyre followed with another point to give the home side the lead. On the stroke of half-time Josh Lacey pounced on hesitancy between Mulhern and Gillespie to poke a loose ball to the net to leave it 2-6 to 1-5 at the interval. Four Masters took up where they left off after the break, controlling midfield and picking off the scores. Conor O’Donnell hit the first score of the second half within seconds of the re-start, McDaid pointed a free and followed up with one from play and substitute Jason Duignan was barely on the pitch when he made it double scores 2-10 to 1-5. Bundoran moved Peter McGonigle to midfield and immediately began to get back into the game. McEniff hit their first score of the second half and followed with a converted free. While the visitors were dominating possession, Four Masters were well capable of hitting them on the break and it was Duignan again who hit their 11th point. McEniff hit another free over the bar and following two bad misses, Moohan made it 1-9 to 2-11. Four Masters were flooding their defense but McEniff broke free but was denied by a first class save by Sean Martin. A close range free from Moohan hit the top of the bar and over but at 1-10 to 2-11 this was as close as Bundoran got, well taken points from John Boyle and Duignan closing out the game for a well deserved victory for the home team. Apr 21 2008 Bundoran quickly hit the first point of the second half and then a Cian McEniff goal gave them the lead. Points from Brennan and Niall Carr extended the lead out to three points but this was as good as it got for the visitors. A superb Stephen McBrearty goal restored parity and this was soon followed by a couple of points and a fourth goal to leave it 4-11 to 4-6 and Kilcar began to take control hitting a further three points before Bundoran finally raised a white flag. The visitors never said die, however, and Niall Carr narrowed the gap back to three points with the Seasider’s fifth goal of the contest. Kilcar stepped up a gear and took control again with Doherty and McBrearty pointing and then a fifth goal for Kilcar seemed like the icing on the cake with just five minutes left. Bundoran had two penalty appeals turned down, getting 14m frees instead. The first of these came to nothing being parried just short of the line but Jamie Brennan drilled the second low into the corner of the net. There was still too much left for Bundoran to do and it was Kilcar that responded with the final point of the game to end up deserving winners. Bundoran: Max Muller, Brendan Oates, Aidan Mitchell, Daire O’Reilly, Niall Cullen, Conor Dawson, Shane Carr, Stephen Cassidy, David Hastings, Jamie Brennan (2-3), Niall Carr (1-1), Cian McEniff (1-3), Jane Carty (2-1), Kelvin Mulhern. Breen knocked over a point to narrow the gap to the minimum, before a mix-up in the visitor’s defence left Brian Mulhern with a simple tap-in goal to give Nauls the lead. A short free give Breen his third point on the trot to leave Nauls leading by 2-5 to 1-5. McEniff pointed a free for Bundoran then a wonderfully-taken goal by Matthew McCabe put the visitors back in front. McEniff stretched the lead and Johnny Carr scored an excellent solo-effort to narrow the gap again. Bundoran were looking the more dangerous with Shane Moohan winning every ball pumped forward and his spade work soon paid off when he sent Stephen Reilly through to blast home Bundoran’s third goal. Ashley Mulhern having swapped his goal-keeper at half-time to play centre-half forward hit a peach of a point to give Bundoran a comfortable 3-8 to 2-6 lead as the game entered the final ten minutes. Nauls had character, however. A great save by Ciaran Carty broke to a Bundoran defender who was judged to have touched the ball on the ground. Mulhern returned to goals to save the penalty but Breen was quickest off te mark to tap in the rebound and once again it was game on and when Breen pointed a free to leave the minimum between the sides it was shaping up for a tight finale. Mulhern, now returned to the forward line hit a point with the outside of his foot and another Breen free put the game back the melting pot. The next Nauls attack was broken up by Neal Chapman and his pass set McEniff off on a run that ended with him firing over from long range. As the game headed into injury time Mulhern caught a high ball on the edge of the square, quickly turned and hammered the ball home. Nauls valiantly launched themselves forward again but they were out of time. Best for the Bundoran were Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Neal Chapman, Ryan Walsh, Shane Moohan and Stephen Ryan, while for the home side, Brendan Breen, Johnny Carr, Fiacre McGinley, Stewart Johnson and Michael Quinn were the stars. While three of their next four points came from frees they were reward for the home side’s dominance and coming up to the three quarter mark the game was level pegging at 2-5 to 1-8. The home side then hit the front for the first time in the game when Craig McGrory eluded the Bundoran cover to crash the ball home and leave it 2-5 Bundoran, 2-8 Naomh Bríd.. Bundoran, still scoreless in the second period finally made the breakthrough, compliments of their star player Brennan who found space to advance on goal and drill the ball home and it was level again. Within minutes Brennan struck for his second goal and the game had turned on its head again. It was nearly done and dusted two minutes later but Conor Cassidy in the Naomh Bríd goal made a fabulous one-handed and Cian McEniff smashed the rebound off the underside of the crossbar. With time running out Naomh Bríd swiftly transferred the ball upfield and when Bundoran keeper Niall Carr palmed away a goalbound effort from Eoghan Quinn an over-anxious Bundoran defender lifted the ball off the ground. Killian Byrne smashed home the resultant penalty to leave the scores level again. The drama still had a few more twists. McEniff redeemed his early miss by lobbing the ball over the bar from a tight angle and Bundoran scrambled a few desparate clearances as Naomh Bríd through the kitchen sink at them for a final vital score but the Seasiders survived to win the tightest of matches and one that, in fairness, did not deserve to have a losing side. Naomh Bríd: Conor Cassidy, Peter Gorman, Sean Duffy, Shane Timoney, Conor O Cassidy, Shane Ward, Owen McGarrigle, Craig McGrory (1-3), Kieran Boyle (0-1), Gerard Martin (0-4), Gerard Gallagher, Killian Byrne (2-0), Eoghan Quinn. Bundoran: Niall Carr, Paul Murphy, Aidan Mitchell, Niall Cullen, Shane Carr, Conor Dawson, Rory Malaniff, Stephen Cassidy (0-1), David Hastings, Jamie Brennan (4-3), Brendan Oates, Cian McEniff (0-2), Jane Carty. Subs used: Ryan McElhinney and Daire O’Reilly. Apr 2 2008 McEniff opened the scoring for Bundoran in the second half with a well taken point and Goodwin quickly followed with another one before Aodh Ruadh’s wing half back Jason McMenamin got the first of his two second-half points. Within the next five minutes, however, any hope for Aodh Ruadh evaporated as Bundoran entered another gear and hit 2-2 without reply. McEniff and Rhys Goodwin hitting the Bundoran goals. Dolan converted an Aodh Ruadh free and then the game petered out with both teams making a number of substitutions. While they did not feature among the scorers Ryan Walsh and captain Niall Gillespie also played very solid games for the home side, while Brian Patton shone for the visitors. Bundoran: Ashley Mulhern, Ryan Walsh, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Peadar O’Keefe, Neal Chapman (0-1), Peter McGonigle (0-2), Stephen Ryan, Niall Gillespie, Brandon Goodwin (0-3), Jonathan Ward, Michael McEniff (2-3), Gavin Croghan (0-2), Shane Moohan (0-3), Rhys Goodwin (0-1), Stephen Reilly (0-1). Subs used: Damien Cleary, Shane McLoone, Ronan Drummond, Liam Devaney. Ref: Gabriel O’Donnell Mar 31 2008 Adam Coyne chipped over from side on the right and just before the interval Conor Ferguson twice denied Bundoran goals before failing to clear his lines and allowing Brian Cassidy in to whack the ball to the net and leaving Bundoran in psychological ascendancy going into the interval. Bundoran might have fancied their chances with the stiff second half breeze and an early point from Goodwin cut the lead to three. However, for the next ten minutes Naomh Conall kept Bundoran scoreless including another fine save by Ferguson to deny Brian Cassidy. A fine solo effort down the right by Cassidy got Bundoran back on track. Goodwin and Clancy then brought the teams level before Stephen Reilly edged Bundoran in front for the first time. In the final minute, however, a last ditch Naomh Conall attack was halted by a silly Bundoran foul and John O’Malley showed a cool head to slot over the equaliser into the breeze from 25m. Both teams deserve great credit as conditions didn’t make it easy and a share of the spoils was a fair result. Naomh Conall: Conor Ferguson, Kieran Brennan, Jason Campbell, James Molloy, Phillip Gallagher, Donal Corcoran, Hughie Gallagher, James Gallagher, Andrew Scott, Seamus Ellis, John O’Malley, Gerard Molloy, Mark Gallagher, Donogh O’Callaghan, Ronan McDevitt. Bundoran: Ciaran Carty, Rory O’Reilly, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Sean McGlone, Niall McGonigle, David Stuttard, Neal Chapman, Brandon Goodwin, Adam Coyne, Lee Creevy, Brian Cassidy, Gary Clancy, Diarmuid Spratt, Stephen O’Reilly, Brian McManus. Subs used: Johnny Boyle.. Ref : Michael Gallagher Mar 26 2008 Mar 24 2008 In the second half it looked like it was going to be more of the same with Aodh Rua having to clear a goal chance off the line practically from the throw – in. A point from Lee Creevy put Bundoran further ahead but this seemed to shake Aodh Ruadh from their torpor. From that point there was much greater urgency to their play and had they displayed the same vigour in the first period they would have won this game. They started to win a lot of abll around the middle and were tackling harder all over the pitch. By the three-quarter mark they had scored 2-3 without reply - a fair return for their diligence despite the task they were facing at half-time. Bundoran did not find the same consistency after that but after trading several points and both teams having close goal scoring chances Bundoran saw out the game with relative ease. Bundoran: Ciaran Carty, Sean Mc Glone, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Rory O Reilly, Niall McGonigle, David Stuttard, Johnny Boyle, Brandon Goodwin (0-3), Adam Coyne (0-1), Neil Chapman (0-1), Lee Creevy (0-1), Gary Clancy (0-1), Brian Mc Manus, Stephen O Reilly (3-1) and Diarmuid Spratt (0-3). Subs used: Donal O’Keefe and Sean Maguire Mar 23 2008 Bundoran came out in the second half full of vim. Fergal McKiernan lobbed over a lovely point from a tight angle, Christy Keaney stroked over a free-kick and then hit two from play and within seven minutes of the break Bundoran had established a five point 1-7 to0-5 lead. The inevitable backlash from Moville came and they dominated the next ten minutes but a tenacious Bundoran defence within the confines of the fairly tight pitch frustrated them greatly and despite being almost camped in the Bundoran half all they could muster was a single point. Dessie McNamara raised the siege with a typical booming point and Keaney quickly added another. On fifty minutes, Moville got their second white flag of the half but this was quickly negated by a disputed Richie Gillespie point for the visitors. Tommy Hourihan traded points with the Moville centre-half back Eunan Hegarty, Dessie McNamara hit another before debutant Michael McEniff set up Hourihan for the final score of the game. The match was excellently ref’d by Michael Mulhern who kept tight control while also letting the game flow, although the match was played in good spirit. There was no Reserve tie as Moville do not have a Reserve team. Bundoran’s next game will be home to Naomh Columba next Sunday with the Reserve game due to start at 13.30 and the Senior tie at 15.00. Bundoran: Kevin McManus, Diarmuid McCaughey, Shane O’Donnell, Barry McGowan, Richie Gillespie (0-1), James Keaney, Adam Dunmore (0-1), Dessie McNamara (0-2), Niall Dunne, Fergal McKiernan (0-1), Stephen Rafferty, Christy Keaney (0-4), Shane Moohan, Declan Rafferty (1-0), Tommy Hourihan (0-4). Subs: Johnny Keenan, Rossa McKiernan, Michael McEniff, Jonathan Ward, Shane McGowan and Rory Dunne. Ref: Michael Mulhern Mar 21 2008 Naomh Columba bookend-ed this came with each of their two points but in-between a Jamie Brennan inspired Bundoran ripped the hear out of the Glencolmcille team. Playing into a very strong breeze the visitors opened their account within about 30 seconds with an excellent Pauric Cunningham point. Bundoran swiftly drew ahead, however, with a superbly taken Jane Carty goal and then began the Brennan show as the Bundoran centre-half forward contributed 4-8 over the remainder of the first half. Coming up to half-time, however, Naomh Columba still looked like contenders. A Cormac McGinley goal had given them some respite and it was 2-7 to 1-1 coming up to the break and with the elements to favour Glen in the second half it seemed Bundoran might not be far enough ahead. However, a scoring blitz including three Brennan goals in as many minutes left Bundoran in an almost unassailable position, leading by 5-9 to 1-1 at the break. Within seconds of the restart Brennan had found the net again and dropped deep for the remainder of the game. The visitors battled gamely but heads were falling in their defence and Bundoran hit a further four goals to a single Glen point from Ryan Gillespie to wrap up the game. Bundoran: Niall Carr, Shane Carr, Aidan Mitchell, Paul Murphy, Conor Dawson, Brendan Oates, Niall Cullen, Rory Malaniff, Stephen Cassidy (1-1), Diarmuid Ward, Jamie Brennan (5-8), David Hastings (2-0), Dylan Stuttard, Jane Carty (1-0), Cian McEniff (0-1). After a lot of huffing and puffing with Four Masters coming close to scoring a very early goal Bundoran hit the opening two points of this game through Stephen Reilly and Adam Coyne. Another dangerous Four Masters attack was snuffed out at the expense of a 45m and Luke Keaney’s well struck 45 was deflected off the finger-tips of Brandon Goodwin and into the net. Four Masters’s lead was short-lived as Adam Coyne and Gary Clancy scored well-worked points to edge Bundoran in front again. David Stuttard broke forward to put Bundoran further ahead before a superb Daniel Gildea point brought the margin back to the minimum. The Seasiders finished the half strongly, however, with points from Coyne, Clancy and Chapman to leave it 0-8 to 1-1 at the break. A Stephen O’Reilly goal minutes after the second-half started was quickly followed by three more Bundoran points – Stephen O’Reilly, Brandon Goodwin and Adam Coyne – to leave it 1-12 to 1-1 and put the mathc while there was a lull in the scoring for the next fifteen minutes the game was effectively over and a strong finish by the Seasiders put a gloss on the scoreline. Bundoran: Ciaran Carty, Sean McGlone, Nathan Carlin-Rosanio, Rory O’Reilly, Niall McGonigle, David Stuttard (0-1), Darren Cassidy, Brandon Goodwin (0-2), Adam Coyne (1-3), Neal Chapman (0-1), Lee Creevy (1-0), Gary Clancy (0-4), Johnny Boyle, Stephen O’Reilly (1-2), Diarmuid Spratt.
